Well, I am playing tennis and can serve the ball pretty well.
I am currently using my whole body to build up energy.
I start out with my weight on the back leg, knees bent,
Then i shift to front legs and push up with both legs to gain more power.
Anything else I can do besides just swing my arm faster?
I know how to serve and everything
Put the ball in front, things like that.
I also jump a little when I serve, it just depends on ball placement.

Use as much of your legs as you can. The more power you can generate from firing your legs up into the ball the faster your serve will be. Try putting your toss further out in front of you. In doing so, it will allow you to use more body motion into the ball. If your toss goes behind your head, fix that. When standing in your service position before starting the toss, focus on making your toss go up to the right of your body if you are right-handed (left of body if a lefty). This allows you to hit the ball square instead of brushing up on the outside of the ball. The pace you generate on the serve should not come primarily from your arms. It should come from your bigger muscles, like your legs and core. In your motion, try sinking further down on your legs before serving. Hope that helps. Im out of tune more often than not with conventional wisdom, so I dont have a strong opinion on who did better. Several months ago, the expectations were that McCain would best Obama in a foreign policy debate and it would be a victory if Obama could hold his own. After McCains behavior the last week, I think the new expectations were that it would be a victory for McCain if he showed up on stage wearing pants.
I wasnt sure if McCain would fly in on stage in a hot air balloon, if he would rappel down from the rafters, or ride in piggyback on Joe Lieberman yeling “Yippie!” When he walked on stage like a normal candidate, I think that was a major campaign surprise. A real game changer.
I like the new format of the debates a lot, and Id be happy to have Jim Lehrer host all of them. He does a great job. One quibble with a question he asked, the one about what programs or priorities would be put on hold because of the cost of the bailout. Its one of those questions where the evasive, politician-speak answer is the right one.
The number $700 billion wasnt arrived at based on certain conditions in the market. It was because they needed a big, dramatic number. Thats not a joke. I dont have the quote from the Treasury official who said that handy, but I can dig it up if you want. Here is a link to the quote.
The point is no one knows at this point whether the bailout will be $350 billion, $700 billion, or $1.3 trillion. We dont know how much money the government will lose (or possibly even make in the long term) because no one knows yet how much these sub-prime mortgages cost. The point of the bailout as I understand it is to create an environment where banks can find the true value of these mortgages (like on an auction market) and be able to sell them without going bankrupt. Once every financial institution has their books in balance and knows how much money they truly have, it will be easier to make new loans to businesses and lend to each other because then theyll know how much risk they can take.
(I have to say that Im not confident about my understanding at all. I could be completely off.)
The main point is that neither McCain or Obama will know how much they have to cut or what changes theyll have to make until they know how much the budget shortfall will be. I guess they could have responded Well, if I had to cut something, I would cut but it would have been better if Lehrer had asked that question directly.

Second, related to that last point, the sheer number of articles, TV interviews, YouTube videos and so on demonstrating Palins astonishing lack of knowledge about history and events leading to her inability to go beyond talking points (and even that comes out badly in interviews to where McCain has to defend her!) has got to be demoralizing to supporters. Obama may not have much experience either, but at least he has a good grasp of all the issues. Tonights debate should be a defining moment for Palin.
Third, for over a year, as a result of Bush and the war primarily, its been a given that Republicans will lose House and Senate seats. Nothing they can do about that, meaning the Democrats will continue to control both.
Fourth, anyone with the slightest understanding of the economy could forsee the housing bubble bursting. It had to happen eventually, its just that the mortgage mess perhaps made it happen sooner. Combined with all the other bad economic trends over the last few years, it was clear the next Prez was going to have a mess to deal with.
So, knowing all that, did the Republican leadership decide to take a fall by nominating two people who ultimately couldnt win once the public got a good look? Let the Dems have it so that he/she gets blamed for the pain that would be endured fixing it all? Get the blame for dealing with Iraq, Afghanistan, etc that was going to happen anyway because of how Bush handled it all? Then in 2012 come to the of the country with someone anyone who wasnt a Democrat?
McCain supporters, before answering, ask yourself this question: At any other time and ignoring who the Democratic candidates are, would McCain and Palin be the ones you REALLY want leading this country?

Blogging from Oslo Airport is a nightmare like most airports. However, you would expect this airport to be more online savvy than most. Telenor, the Norwegian telegiant, is providing free wireless Internet access in Budapest Airport, which I immediately recognized and gave kudos.

The express train works like a dream, though, and the ticketless credit card solution, is very smooth. 20 minutes from the central station (or Sentralstation, as they say up here) and you are in the Gardemoen Airport, one of the three Scandinavian hubs (the other being Copenhagen and Stockholm).

I wonder when the old, old, old men in the airport management teams will find out the fast and free Internet access will make a better company. The customers will be more will informed, not so bothered with the apparently unavoidable delays, being able to buy MORE AIRLINE TICKETS. I could go on forever.

Hunt Sports Group has been approached by a group led by Jonathon Bloch and Mark Noorzai regarding a potential minority investment in the Columbus Crew Soccer Club. Although no agreement has been reached at this time, discussions are ongoing. Hunt Sports Group plans to continue as the Managing Investor-Operator of the club.



While I cant discuss details of the situation, comparing it to the recent investment by Oscar de la Hoya and others in the Houston Dynamo is a reasonable comparison. Consider the group led by Bloch and Noorzai to be an addition to the existing group of minority investors that has been with the Crew since Day One. The processes and discussions related to this transaction are ongoing, they are not on any specific timetable and a deal may or may not be consummated.



I think there are three significant messages to deliver:



1. The Crew is not moving to Las Vegas, regardless of whether this transaction takes place or not. We have an established stadium, a recent significant investment in our concert business here, a successful and growing youth development program, plans and interest in developing a world class training complex and many other long term strategic plans to facilitate the continued growth and prosperity of the club in Columbus.



2. This transaction, should it take place, will not affect the current organization or our operation. We will continue to operate in our current form working diligently to build a club that will make our fans proud and create new fans.



3. The fact that there is interest in investing significant resources in the Columbus Crew is a positive sign that business leaders see the value in whats happening in Columbus, in the direction of the club and the potential return on their investment.

The SUNY Cortland womens lacrosse club erased a year of misfortune against Ithaca on Sunday, beating the Bombers 11-6. Cortland had lost both previous contests to Ithaca in the 2007-2008 season 11-10 and 12-10. Cortland opened the scoring early and dominated offensively in the first half, taking a 5-1 lead at halftime. Ithaca battled back, closing the gap to 6-4 in favor of the Red Dragons halfway through the second half. But Cortland, led by Erinn Wilcox (3 goals) and Britt Gale (2 goals) put an end to the comeback, rattling off 5 straight goals to take a commanding 11-5 lead late in the half. Ithaca added another tally late to make the final score 11-6 in favor of Cortland.
Nicole Prechtl (2 goals), Whitney Stevenson (1 goal, 2 assists), AnneMarie Vitchers (1 goal, 2 assists), Dana Zaccaro (1 goal, 1 assist), Julie Park (goal), and Laurie Vitchers (goal) also contributed to the Cortland attack. The Cortland defense, backed by goaltender Sam Anderson, also played well, shutting down the Ithaca offense in the first half.
Cortland will play their next home game on Sunday, October 19th against Broome Community College. Game time is set for 1:30pm on Stadium White.

LONDON - Hull recorded one of the greatest shocks in English Premier League history with an astonishing 2-1 win at Arsenal on Saturday.

Second-half goals from Geovanni and Daniel Cousin inflicted just the Gunners' second defeat at the Emirates stadium - their first came against West Ham in April 2007 - and provoked exuberant celebrations among the travelling contingent.

It also denied Arsene Wenger's side the chance to return to the top of the table, although that disappointment will be nothing compared to the embarrassment of being humbled on home turf by a side dismissed as whipping boys by the pundits.

Arsenal had looked on course to return to the summit courtesy of Paul McShane's own goal just after the interval but, despite a welter of late pressure, they could find no answer to Hull's indomitable spirit.

Few teams venture to the Emirates with hopes of conquering it, a point underlined by the fact that Arsenal had rattled in 14 unanswered goals in their four games this term.

But Hull are not typical top flight green-horns. The Tigers had taken four points from their first two away games and had only been out-classed once, in a home rout by Wigan.

City were in no mood to be overawed. They were determined not to allow Arsenal the space and time they need to thrive and the hosts found themselves frustrated at every turn.

They enjoyed an early stroke of luck, when Emmanuel Adebayor's headed goal was disallowed for a foul on McShane, but for the most part they relied on their own qualities.

Two early chances summed up the first half. In the 16th minute, a quicksilver break from Theo Walcott appeared certain to end in the striker bearing down on goal, only for Andy Dawson to emerge from nowhere and whip the ball from his toes.

There were more heroics three minutes later. A slick interchange between Kolo Toure and Cesc Fabregas ended with the Spaniard reaching the by-line. His pull-back found William Gallas but the Frenchman's goal-bound shot was superbly blocked by George Boateng.

Hull's unexpected resistance seemed to befuddle Arsenal, with Walcott suffering more than most.

The 19-year-old inexplicably tried to control Emmanuel Eboue's 25th-minute cross rather than simply head it home, allowing Hull to smother the danger, and then took too many touches after bursting onto a Fabregas pass.

But Walcott was not alone. There were howls of protest from the home fans when a canny ball from Adebayor teed up Eboue only for the Ivorian midfielder to try yet another pass, rather than shoot from an inviting position.

Arsenal trooped off for half-time looking perplexed, but normal service appeared to be resumed within five minutes of the re-start.

Walcott tore down the right, crossed into the six-yard box and after Adebayor had helped the ball on, it was bundled home by the back-tracking McShane.

That should have been the cue for Arsenal's supposed class to tell. Instead, Hull stormed back in the most astonishing manner imaginable.

Their 64th-minute equaliser was startling enough, Geovanni cutting inside past Gael Clichy before unleashing a magnificent 25-yard shot which swerved across Manuel Almunia and into the top corner.

But that was capped just moments later when Dawson's fizzed in-swinging corner was met at the near post by the leaping Cousin, the striker's flicked header soaring into the opposite corner.

Arsenal tried manfully to mount a fight-back. Adebayor and van Persie might have done better than roll shots past the left-hand post after finding space in the area and Gallas was unlucky to see a thumping header hit the woodwork, with substitute Carlos Vela deflecting the rebound wide.

And then, deep into stoppage time, City were indebted to goalkeeper Boaz Myhill, who somehow turned aside a blistering drive from Fabregas.

Now that the last game of the elimination round has been played, four teams are tied for second at 9-5 win-loss card.
The Philippine NCAA uses FIBA rules, and under those rules is the FIBA classification point system. The four teams will have to play a playoff for the three Final Four spots.
San Beda is untouchable at the first spot at 11 3 and gets the first twice-to-beat incentive.

San Sebastian will play Jose Rizal University and Letran will play Mapua. Winners of both games will play in another do-or-die match to determine which team gets the second seeding in the Final Four and the last of two twice-to-beat incentive. The losing team automatically gets the third seed. Losing teams in the first two matches will also play another match to determine who will take a vacation and who will sit at the fourth seed.
The two schools from Intramuros, which are three blocks apart, Letran College and Mapua Institute of Technology, will play on Septemeber 15 at 4 PM. The Cardinals beat the Knights in the first round but the Knights avenged that loss in the second round to split their games in the season.
Backcourt
This is a game in which both teams will be bringing stout backcourts to the table, however I would hand the edge to Mapua. Kelvin dela Pena (the reigning Most Valuable Player of the league) and Jonathan Banal comprise the best starting backcourt in the field. Even with Mangahas replacing Jonathan Banal in the backcourt isnt too shabby.
Both Banal and Mangahas are dynamic players that knows how to distribute the basketball. What makes them dangerous is that because of their shooting abilities, they can get their own shots anytime they want.
Frontcourt
Daa, Guevarra, Foronda against the frontcourt of Mapua, led by their senior Niel Pascual, comprising of Jason Pascual, Mazo, and Sarangay would be a tie. These Big Men will battle for the boards and blocks. Note that, boards will be a great factor in this game. As the record shows, Mapua beat Letran when they lead in boards with 38-34 while Letran beat Mapua when the Knights had 57 boards against the Cardinals 41 boards. It may mean that whoever gets the most rebounds of the game will mostly win it.
Coaching
Both Louie Alas and Leo Isaac are veteran mentors but I would hand the edge to Isaac. Isaac probably have more mentoring experience, he is one of the assistant coach of Air21 and the coach of Noosa Shoes. Coach Louie Alas is considered to be the best defensive coach of the NCAA and will make good plays.
Intangibles
Allan Mangahas and Mark Sarangay gets a lot of time a rookie, which means Leo Isaac and the Cardinals are as young as it gets. Isaac is only in his third year as the Cardinals mentor. I would hand the intangibles edge to the Letran Knights.

so yup today had class as usual.9-12pm my first lesson for business law.wow. this module seem really difficult and stressful. the lecturer already putting stress on us already.with the thick thick lectures notes plus another 200 pages of notes we need to print on our own. like wow. printting 200 pages is really a lot. somemore i got so much to study.zzz the thickness is like 3 times the thickness of my past modules? we have a lot of study materials too plus we are given project to do too.sian-ed all the stress is slowly coming in.

Singer Richard Ashcroft has been called the greatest singer in the world by no less a peer than Coldplay s Chris Martin. Liverpool-born Simon Jones s dub-informed bass takes the Verve s music far beyond rock and into space and dub; Peter Salisbury plays drums more like a jazz great than a conventional rock drummer and when the tag guitarist of his generation is thrown about it often lands at the feet of the hugely adventurous, psychedelic, exploratory Nick McCabe.

Genetic experts have said that these growths come from poor grooming, a genetic defect or a hereditary skin condition. Note: They also said that though the wings do contain bones, they do not not interfere with quality of the cats lives.
Apparently, this story has been around for a year, with other notes saying poor grooming results in matted hair giving the impression of wings.
Believe what you like! Winged cats will brighten up some peoples day Im sure.

I am a 7th-year kindergarten teacher at the International Community School (I.C.S.), in Decatur, Ga. It is a DeKalb County charter school founded in 2002 with about 100 students; it now serves over 400, from kindergarten through sixth grade. Our school is unique in its mission to educate and integrate American-born and refugee children from countries all over the world — including Afghanistan, Bosnia, Kurdistan, Somalia, Sudan, Iraq, Burundi and Burma.
When I first learned that I would be writing for Lesson Plans, I was excited about the opportunity, but I was hesitant, too. What would I write about? How could I do justice to the hundreds of students I’ve taught since I came to the I.C.S. in 2002? To get some clarity, I decided to climb Stone Mountain. Located outside Atlanta, it is the world’s largest piece of exposed granite, with a circumference of five miles and a summit higher than 1600 feet above sea level; it is a place many Atlantans go to for prayer, solace, spiritual rejuvenation, or simply for exercise. For me, it is an oasis of peace. I needed some grounding so I took the 1.3-mile trek to the top with my notebook and pen in hand. It was a typical Georgia morning, hot, humid and very sunny.
At the top of Stone Mountain, I meditated on my path as a teacher and how I came to be here at this point in time. As a Palestinian-American, navigating my own cultural identity has been a life-long process. My experiences led me to want to help children develop and express their unique identities — and the way I chose was through creativity. Soon the story of a young boy who came to my class from Sudan last year entered my mind.

Technically, ICS is in DeKalb County, and not in incorporated Decatur. It's on the north side of Covington Highway just outside Avondale.
The NYT loves ICS. It had a story about it earlier this year.

Please pardon a little tooting of one's own horn.
This is the 2001st post since inDECATUR was started one year, one month, and 6 days [402 days] ago. That's an average of about 5 posts a day.
The posts vary widely in the amount of work required to create them, from searching the net and posting a simple annotated link to attending meetings, taking notes and photos, doing internet research, editing and annotating images, and doing lots of typing (perhaps too much). Sometimes a little covert activity is required. [Agent 00? occasionally helps with that]. And, the number of valued continues to grow.
Quantity and quality are two different things. You are the judge of that for each post.
There are now MILLIONS of blogs. Thousands are started every day. They are like turtle eggs laid on the beach. Many (maybe most) of them don't last a year, and far less ever reach even 1K posts. Like a child who wants a pet, a blogger finds out a blog requires more care and feeding than he/she is willing to expend.
Has it been worth it? Certainly not in financial terms. Financially, and otherwise, it's been a monumental waste of time, so far. There are healthier, more fulfilling things to do. But, some have said it's useful to them, and that provides the motivation to continue it.
Readership is steadily growing as people stumble upon it. More comments (pro or con) would be MOST APPRECIATED. On the other hand, open discussion can lead to complications, as another Decatur blog has found lately.

So, Toot! Toot! (for whatever it's worth).
