*Update: While we were able to get in our club lobby the game couldnt find an opponent to connect to. This is likely due to the server issues being experienced right now. Well try again tomorrow at the same time.
With NBA Live 09 now available we can begin to fill up the Pasta Padre Online Team Play Club (Xbox 360). After how successful OTP was last year it has gotten even better in 09 with the addition of clubs and ranked games, tracking of individual stats, and being graded on individual performance by position.
If you are interested in being a part of the club leave your gamertag in the comments and I will send out invites. In order for me to send an invite you must have played Live 09 otherwise the invite attempt will fail. So please only post your gamertag once you have played. Invites are accepted through the Player HUB.
*For those of you on the PS3 a PP club is being set up in partnership with NCAA Strategies. Leave your PSN name in the comments to be invited*
I was forced to pick a team for the club though it appears I can change this at any time. Well find out if we are locked into that team (currently Portland) or if we can select the team at the start of each club game. Otherwise Ill have to change the team on a regular basis since it would be boring to play with the same one all the time.
Tonight will be the first get together but club games can be played at any time. As long as at least three club members are involved the games will count into the rankings. Meet in the club lobby beginning at 5PT/8ET. Im looking forward to playing at least a handful of games and I will be recording at least one of them to post up on the site later in the evening or Wednesday morning.

Its been a week since the culmination of NCAA Season 84. Its only now that I got my thoughts together to write a postscript of the things that transpired during this years tourney. It has been an interesting season for the NCAA. It was the most hotly-contested season in recent history. There were a lot of rumors, intrigues, scandals that surrounded the countrys oldest league. Nevertheless, the league, with all permutations considered, netted the same end result as it had in the last three seasons San Beda still on top.
As it has been the past seasons, the Red Lions were in the center of all these controversies. It began with Emeka Udos mysterious disappearance during the Red Lions annual summer training in the U.S. Word from the grapevine has it that Udo has found new refuge in a university somewhere in the States to continue his basketball pursuits there. This left a large void in the basketball program of the Red Lions, looking ahead into the future. With a heavy heart, they had to move on with their training. Upon their return to Philippine soil, they were up against intense competition in the pre-season. The Red Lions had a fairly strong showing, however, losing the title to UE in the Fil-Oil Flying V invitational, and missing the final of the Father Martins Cup.
Invincibility was severely threatened prior to season opening when the NCAA Mancom disallowed prized rookie Jake Pascual to suit up for the Red Lions. Bedans from all over the world were scrambling for justice for Pascual, launching a text and email brigade to campaign for the appeal of Jakes case. These efforts bore fruit as the NCAA Policy Board cleared Pascual and allowed him to play in RED.
San Beda surged to a rampaging start, routing season host Mapua on opening day. Everybody thought, wow, the Red Lions will be smoothly sailing to the finals, like last year. Oh boy, was everybody terribly mistaken!
Then emerged the newest strategy to win a game without any sweat. The uniform incident that saw San Beda forfeit a clearly won game against Saint Benilde. It was totally revolting to swallow this loss. But then, rules are rules, as the ManCom explained. Okay, yah, whatever
The inevitable then happened. San Beda loses. on the court. Not once.. but twice! The Red Lions succumbed to three point shooting and hard-nosed,elbowed,kneed (or whichever sharp edged body part imaginable) defense of the JRU Heavy Bombers. Another heartbreaking loss came in the hands of Mapuas astral time travel to the retro basketball strategy of milking the clock to the very last second and throwing bombs from all around the rainbow arc. The defending champions were unbeatable, no more. It was then that the basketball world turned to the fact that, hey, this season will not be boring after all. We all saw two teams, not named San Beda, building 8 game winning streaks. Teams from top and bottom reversed in fortunes. What a wily, wily league!
9 and 5 The win-loss record that proved to be the magic number. In seasons past, it was enough to amass 8 wins to enter the semis, but not this year. We were all introduced to the FAB 5 of NCAA 2008: San Beda, and the four way logjam of San Sebastian, Mapua, Letran and JRU. Hearts broke, and new heroes were born. Darkhorse San Sebastian was booted out of the final four, and gone in thin air was Jason Ballesteros dream to exit the NCAA with an MVP award neatly tucked under his long, gangly arms. Why? Because rules are rules, baby.
JRU jetsetted into the finals as San Beda needed extra time to set Mapua aside in a rubber match of the Final Four. At this unforgiving time happened the most sensitized and controversial event of all season, the even more mysterious police incident involving Sam Ekwe. To this day, police officials, San Beda or Ekwe have kept mum about the entire incident, what with the active involvement and intervention of the Nigerian Embassy. It is unfortunate that this horrible incident happened to a foreigner whose only intent was to secure an education and play no-nonsense basketball for his alma mater. Ekwe, with the all-out support and commendable distinction of both his school and his government, brought the limelight back to the NCAA with his energy-filled brand of play and God fearing persona. Never has a foreign baller attracted so much attention in college basketball from our side of the world. Not only has he ruled the painted lane of the NCAA for the past three years, he has upped the level of competition in the league because of his superior strength and his accelerated development in skills. Despite this chain of unfortunate events, Ekwe went back to his winning ways, clinching his second MVP award in three years. He thus became part of an illustrious list of multiple MVP award winners, amongst the likes of Adducul, Quilban and the rest of the gang.
With their MVP back at the helm, San Beda finally barged into the championship against their new favorite nemesis, the JRU Heavy Bombers. An interesting sidelight constantly played up was the hate-hate relationship of Coaches Ariel Vanguardia and Frankie Lim. Spectators held their breath each and every time these teams meet if Lim and Vanguardia will meet at center court for their ceremonial handshake. Uhhhh, maybe, not in this lifetime..
The two teams split the first two games. It was then down to a fitting end, the rubber match of all rubber matches this season, GAME 3. Game 3s give the Red Army chills down its spine as we stroll back in time to 2006 against PCU. Remember way back when Belga threw his last attempt and the ball landing in the hands of Aljamal? Who will ever forget those last seconds of Season 82?!
Thank the high heavens, this time was different. The Red Lions came in their wrecking crew armour. Led by graduating Red Lions Season and Finals MVP Ekwe and Talk and Texter Escobal, they zoomed to an early lead and never looked back. The able supporting cast of Menor, Hermida and Pascual sent a message to all that San Bedas backbone is rock solid, despite the departure of its top gunners. They were back to opening day form, as if nothing happened in between. As the final buzzer sounded, placards filled the coliseum, confetti fell. Misty-eyed Bedans threw their fists high up as the Red Lions made history of their first three-peat, post war. As each Red Lion told his story, one thing was clear, the bitter memories of the past season made this victory sugar-sweet.
Of all the heroes that emerged this season, one man etched his name on that championship trophy in bold Coach of the Year Frankie Lim. From day one, voices from all fronts heavily criticized his inexperience, his shortcomings. But each and every day after that, he laid his cards face up as he and his boys inched their way up. With the rest of the team, he struggled amidst the controversies and setbacks. But he never let up, nor let his boys down. His heart was big enough to beat for this team. To you dear Coach, this victory is as much yours as it is to each and every member of this team. To a valiant Bedan, a grand salute and a resounding Animo!
To all Bedans, the courage of our lions sailed us through rough seas, to bring home the crown. Our pride pulled us through.
Till next season, Go San Beda Fight.

BOTC: I think me, Panjandrum and EMAW could write an entire dissertation on the cause and effect of our poor run defense. The gist of it is bad schemes, poor tackling and undersized personnel. For some reason, our coaching staff decided last year that the 3-4 was a good idea, despite the fact that less than 1 percent (that's an imaginary statistic) of competent football teams run such a scheme. Our blitzes fool nobody and our players aren't sure where they're supposed to be. Next up is poor tackling. We have a lot of players who go for a "hit" without even attempting to wrap up. Others simply think they can arm tackle the ball carrier. Still others don't seem to grasp the idea that the goal of defense is to get the knee of the other team's ball carrier on the ground.
Finally, our defensive front is, for the most part, not very big. Daniel Calvin is a big guy in the middle, but with only three down linemen, we constantly have linebackers on the line of scrimmage, and I just know opposing offensive linemen are licking their chops to get a shot at 210 pound linebackers on running plays.
You brought up the integration of JuCos, and I see that woven through all the problems described above. Granted, the schematics side of it is mostly a coaching problem, but some of that problem is that we have a lot of players who only have a month or so in the system, rather than those with a year or two. That can't help with getting into position on the field. But where I think the JuCo problems are most pronounced is in the poor tackling fundamentals. These JuCo guys have always been the biggest, fastest, strongest guys on the field. They're used to being able to level other players with devastating hits or pull them down with arm tackles. Now that they're up against bigger, stronger faster players, they can't do so anymore. As K-Staters, we can only hope the adage that the best thing about young players is that they turn into, uhh, less-young players.

UA on July 2 reported an apparent violation of NCAA rules regarding soliciting donations, said Athletic Director Jim Livengood in a statement Monday afternoon.
A letter was sent this spring to the Rebounders Club board of directors from Olson's office encouraging them to donate to an amateur basketball exhibition tournament at UA, according to Livengood's report.
The letter was printed over Olson's electronic signature and went out marked "personal and confidential," according to the report Livengood sent to Ron Barker, the associate commissioner of the Pac-10 conference.
...
The letter, which referred to the Arizona Cactus Classic, read in part: "This tournament brings some of the to players in the country to Tucson and is very critical for our recruiting. ... To ensure the future of this tournament, Jim (Storey) needs support from private donations."
Storey runs the Cactus Classic.
Olson "adamantly denied" knowledge of the letter being sent and later sent a retraction, Livengood reported.
In that letter to the Rebounders, which is not dated, Olson wrote, "A letter was sent from the basketball office under my electronic signature which I had never seen or approved in any way because it was a clear cut violation of NCAA rules.

-The game will feature some, but not all, of the functionality from Rock Band and Rock Band 2. All four instruments (guitar, bass, drums, mic) are used, you can through all 18 songs on your own or in a group, there are score duels and tug of war. However, there's no online capability. If you want to play with your friends, you have to be in the same room. In addition, there's no character creator. I would assume there are set characters you can choose from instead.
-All 19 tracks can be transferred onto a PS3 or 360 hard drive free of charge in order to import them into Rock Band or Rock Band 2. Then they show up like any other downloaded tracks and can be played with all of the game's modes, online or offline.
But this can only be done once per disc. That's MTVs way of preventing someone from sharing a disc with friends, or re-selling it, and essentially engaging in piracy. Seems reasonable to me. Given that songs cost $2 to download online, 18 tracks for $40 is just slightly more than it would cost to buy them online. Not the best deal ever, but not a rip-off either.
-DeGooyer says that AC/DC members chose to put the Live at Donington songs in the game and that MTV enthusiastically agreed. To us it hung together more than cherry picking master recordings, he said. It really is an experience. You put the disc in and you play through a live set.
-No specific word on whether there will be more expansion tracks along these lines. But launching a game like this in concert with an album as part of a big retail promotion fits in with MTV's strategy of integrating Rock Band into the overall music business so that a videogame component becomes a natural part of any product launch or marketing push.
This is a huge statement about our platform and how meaningful it has become, DeGooyer commented We want to be an authentic component of the music business. If a band is trying to get something done, if they've got a great new record or are going on tour, we'd love to be working with them. It could be a DLC pack or something more like this, which is all the bells and whistles.

Bloomington, Indiana - The Indiana University Athletics Department will hold its annual Hoosier Hysteria on Friday, October 17 in Assembly Hall. The event will feature the IU mens and womens basketball teams and the IU volleyball program.
Our players and coaches are really looking forward to this event., said IU mens basketball coach Tom Crean. It will be a great way for the fans to get to know us and for our kids to understand just how important Indiana basketball is to those who support our program. Our hope is to have as many former players back as possible to also be a part of this special night.
Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and the cost of admission is three canned goods or a cash donation both of which will benefit the Hoosier Hills Food Bank. The evening will begin with an autograph session at 6 p.m. Then the Hoosier volleyball squad hosts Ohio State in a 7 p.m. match. Following the match both the mens and womens team and then each squad will take the floor for their first official practice session of the season.
Hoosier Hysteria is an excellent way to put our program in front of the Hoosier faithful and a fun night not only for our players, but for our coaches, IU womens basketball coach Felisha Legette-Jack said. It also officially marks the beginning of the season and we are excited to get on the court and continue our pursuit of championships here at Indiana.
A detailed schedule of events for the night will be released prior to the event. For ticket and event information, call 1-866-IUSPORTS or visit IUHoosiers.com.
Volleyball is very excited to be partnering with basketball for Hoosier Hysteria once again, said IU womens volleyball coach Sherry Dunbar. Last year we played in front one of the largest crowds in the country for our match against Michigan State and this year we hope to play in front of a full Assembly Hall when we play Ohio State. Were excited for the fans to see competitive Big Ten Volleyball and help us in our quest to beat the Buckeyes.

Bed and breakfasts are a great accommodation option and one that can really be a great benefit to you if you are traveling around the world.
If you are traveling to the Savannah area and need proper accommodations, a great idea would be to find a Savannah bed and breakfast inn that is going to offer you what you need and just as you would with a Florida bed and breakfast inn, you are going to need to follow a few steps in order to find the most perfect bed and breakfast lodging for you.
Getting Started
First and foremost you should be aware of all that a Savannah bed and breakfast inn has to offer you. Staying in a Savannah bed and breakfast inn offers you much more coziness and it is much more personal than a hotel or motel. Not only are you in more familiar surroundings because you are in a home type structure as opposed to a hotel facility, but as well you get to make new friends.
If you have never stayed in a bed and breakfast before there is no better time than now, and if you are traveling to Savannah you will definitely want to try out a Savannah bed and breakfast inn so you can see how fantastic it really is.
Talk to Them
If you want to find the best Savannah bed and breakfast inn, one of the most important steps is going to be for you to call and talk to the managers of the bed and breakfast. This way you will get to speak to them one on one and get a better idea of whether or not they are the type of people that you would want to stay with for a couple of days.
Keep in mind that people who start up bed and breakfasts need to go through an extensive process, and so as long as you stick with the qualified bed and breakfasts you really should have no problem.
It will be well worth all the time and effort that you put into this process however, as you will be able to feel comfortable and know that you are going to have reliable and safe accommodations no matter where you travel, Savannah or any other place.
Fortunately, there are literally thousands of different bed and breakfasts around the world that are available to you and so no matter what particular amenities you are looking for you can find the perfect bed and breakfast.

Crescent 4 4 Full Size Violin with Case Natural Color Complete Set Product Image
This violin is ideal for the beginning musician. It features maple wood back and sides, pear wood fingerboard and four fine tuners. It also includes a genuine horse hair wood bow, rosin and a featherweight carrying case with strap and carrying handle. Accessory colors/style may vary. Here are some hints to help keep your violin in tune: 1. Although the violins come with a bridge, it is not installed. Installing a bridge should is not difficult, but if you have a problem, please email us. The bridge has to be installed for the violin to play correctly. 2. Strings do tend to slip and lose their tune on a new violin because they need to stretch. If this happens, just give it time. The strings just need time to settle in. 3. If the violin pegs keep slipping, try to push the peg in while turning it. If they still dont stay in, peg drops are available at most music stores. They are relatively inexpensive and should help the pegs stay in. 4. If a strand of hair breaks on the bow, take a pair of nail clippers and cut it from the frog (bottom of the bow) or the top of the bow. A few hairs are bound to fall out with play. Remember to rub a little rosin (included) on the bow before playing. This is a great violin to get started with. And at this price it is an unbeatable value.

More details are now known on what is being referred to as the Reverse Fantasy League for NBA 2K9. Registration for this doesnt begin until release day October 7th. Kevin Garnett, Steve Nash, Greg Oden, Chauncey Billups, Carlos Boozer, Andre Iguodala, Monta Ellis, and Derek Rose will select their own fantasy team of NBA 2K9 gamers to compete on their behalf. You can check out the official website here.
Users receive a score based on the stats of each game (required to be five minute quarters against random opponents). It states that each user must play one full game a month to participate. Points, rebounds, and assists will net you one point while a steal and a block will net you two. On the other end committing a foul will subtract a point and each turnover will deduct two. The total is then divided by the minutes played for an average.
At this point Im wondering if there will be an incentive to playing more and more games. If not then someone could have a great first game then decide to sit out the rest of the month which to me would defeat the purpose. It looks like people who are selected to one of the players teams must play 300 minutes worth in order to qualify for participating in the playoffs but that doesnt necessarily explain whether there is incentive to play a lot as a free agent trying to get selected for a team.
One thing I do like is that it appears this isnt based on winning the games but rather putting up the stats. Why this could be good is that it does give a reason to not disconnect or quit and to play games through even if on the losing end. Disconnecting after halftime will apparently result in loss of stats which will hurt a users average. Even if someone is losing they could produce better stats in the remainder of the game which would benefit them.
What are your thoughts on this? I find the idea of it to be pretty intriguing however my concern is that things of this nature have limitations and dont include everyone. While that makes it more exciting for people who are really good it can be discouraging for those who are just playing for fun to know that theyll probably never have that same opportunity to enjoy this aspect of the game. At the very least though this should be something interesting to follow.

The Super 80 Semifinals was a fight with the Comets and Shock coming out on top to battle for the championship.
In Game 1, the Sparks, Ashley Tate (Ridgeway), came back to the league from a brief absence last week with a vengence. During the first half, she frustrated the Comets and scored at will knocking down 18 points and grabbing 9 rebounds at 5'5. She also showed her unselfishness with a couple of no look passes converting into assists.
However, the Comets turned it on in the second half and stepped up their defense making it extremely difficult for Ashley to penetrate into the paint. Jasmine Robinson (Overton) and Candis Clear took over on the offensive end for the Comets.

One player who has already committed to Indianas class of 2009, shooting guard Maurice Creek, will bring with him to Bloomington this weekend a current teammate who could become the sixth player to join that class.
Chris Braswell, a 6-foot-8, 225-poound forward, plays with Creek at Hargrave Military Academy and is, according to HoosierNation.com’s John Decker, one of two players likely to fill out next year’s freshmen class. The other, 6-11 center Bawa Maniru, visited last weekend.
Marquis Teague, one of the top guards in the class of 2011, will also be in town according to Mike Pegram of InsideIndiana.com. Teague, from Pike in Indianapolis, is the younger brother of Wake Forest guard Jeff Teague.

NCAA Strategies NCAA Basketball 09 Event Recap regarding Gameplay..
The following is a recap of the gameplay presentation from NCAA Basketball producers Sean OBrien and Connor Dougan.
The main gameplay addition to NCAA Basketball isSet the Tempo. As explained by OBrien, college basketball is defined by the excitement and intensity that comes with the uniqueness of each teams style of play, and executing that style of play to perfection.
In NCAA Basketball, there are three distinct styles of play: Up Tempo, Half Court, and Balanced.
- Up-Tempo: Pressure D, push ball in transition, aggressive offensively.
- Half Court: Use shot clock, run longer sets, limit opponents possessions.
- Balanced: Can run in transition play half court.
Each team has a pre-defined style of play based upon their roster and coaching style/tendency. These can be changed mid-game and also in Dynasty Mode.
Throughout the course of the game, the tempo is measured and displayed via a Game Tempo Control meter resembling a speedometer. Based upon time of possession (average time each player takes to attempt a shot per possession), the Game Tempo Control will show the current pace of the game and the pace each team should be striving for. Up-Tempo teams will want to bury the needle, Half Court teams will want the needle on the left side, and Balanced teams will want the needle in the middle. Half court teams will not be penalized for scoring on fast breaks or on offensive rebounds put-backs.
If teams play to their ideal tempo, they will receive a slight boost. If they are allowing their opponent to play to the tempo they desire (while not playing in their own), they will receive a slight downgrade. The key to success in NCAA Basketball 09 is recognizing your team strength ideal tempo, and playing to each.
In the pre-game screen, gamers can pick three points of emphasis. These points are based upon the style of play that team uses in real-life. These three points do not alter the gameplay, but rather are simply presentation support with the coaches in-game.

"You've been living in your own Batcave if you've failed to notice the impact comic books have recently had on the entertainment industry. TV shows, games, and movies are capitalizing big time on what used to be (and perhaps still is) a relatively niche product. I heard a young person recently say that the, "The Dark Knight is the "defining movie of his generation," yet when asked, admitted he'd never picked up a Batman comic. (A similar claim could probably be made for many casual sports gamers; how many "Maddenites" have never watched an NFL game from whistle to whistle?) Regardless, comic properties are hotter than ever, and are finding their way into mainstream avenues like never before.

A few days ago I stated I was struggling with finding much reason to anticipate NCAA Basketball 09 after hearing there would be no Be A Pro or Online Team Play included. Granted it sounds as if the gameplay has been vastly improved and the tempo feature sounds great. But still after the OTP, Online Dynasty, and EASHL experiences I have realized that I no longer have the same interest level in playing these games the old standard way. It is pretty clear that the online aspect of NCAA Basketball 09 was put on the back burner.
Now comes news via attendees of the recent community event such as Chris Jacobs of NCAA Strategies and Shawn Drotar of 5WG that despite allowing named rosters to be shared through the EA Locker those rosters wont carry over into online play. This is a departure from what has been the case in the past and continues to be with NCAA Football. It is especially perplexing given that the last two years March Madness has gone as far as basically providing a roster update at tournament time which was unprecedented for a college game and also was the first to allow sharing of rosters from user to user in 07. It gave the sense that there was some more leniency on the basketball side compared to the football side. Whether this was an NCAA mandated move or just something they couldnt get to work for some reason is unknown.
Not being able to see the names really kills much of the appeal of playing online to begin with for me. So Im curiousis this a deal breaker for anyone or does it not make much of a difference.
