Since there are so many fine reviews here, Ill just add my two cents worth.
For $59.99 I purchased a refurbished model of the e280 and couldnt be happier. This model beats the iPod Nano 8GB on features and the sound is about equal with perhaps a slight nod to the Nano. The unit looks exactly like a brand new one with the exception of the word embossed on the back.
Features:
SanDisk doesnt require you to use any particular music source or program, so iTunes isnt an issue.
The Sansa includes an FM receiver the Nano doesnt.
The Sansa includes Video playback the Nano doesnt.
The Sansas screen is a bit larger and the picture quality is excellent.
The Sansa includes a record feature allowing recording of the FM signal or your voice (with its own microphone).
Sansa players include a microSD slot allowing for memory expansion. An extra $25 or so gives you an extra 8GB as of this writing.
Operation between main memory and the expansion slot is seamless (without alot of menus, dialogs, etc.).
The Sansa includes a built-in equalizer with presets (Classical, Jazz, Funk, Rock, etc.) and a custom feature allowing you to build your own sound, something the Nano doesnt offer.
Dowloading music is as easy as drag-and-drop. I use Windows Media Player version 10 (with XP) and have had no problems. Make sure your files are .wma lossless or you will get a Bad Track error message. This is found in the Options menu of the Media Player.
Im told the Sansa has a greater flexibility with play lists, especially coupled with Windows. Sub-menus are easily handled as is artist information as is cover art. Ive heard (but have no first-hand experience) that managing play lists with the Nano is more involved.
The included earbuds are actually decent, although Ive upgraded to the Sennheiser PX100 headphones. I recommend the Sennheisers, but its great that a refurbished product comes with a good pair of stock earbuds.
The owners manual is short, sweet, and very clear. But if you get stuck as I did with reformatting the refurbished units memory, the toll free customer support is very good, polite, and solved the issue.
Ive purchased some accessories for the e280 such as a car/wall charging kit, a clear crystal case, a leather carrying case for the player and the phones, and an FM transmitter that allows me to play the contents of the Sansa over my car stereo.
I also purchased a 2-year warranty for about $11. Refurbs come with a 90-day warranty, so 2-years plus 90 days is a bargain. The new units come with a 1-year warranty.
All in all, Ive got a great digital audio player with accessories for only a bit more than the cost of a new e280.

Abbott said he represents the people of his precinct who feel the movie studio shouldn’t be in the housing business.
“We have so many houses for sale in that area,” he added. “It didn’t make sense to have another 25 houses in this project.”
Abbott’s proposed 25,000-square-foot limit to the proposed office space in the amenity campus is also absurd, Main said.
“How does he know how many square feet they need for office space?” he said. “And who is he to tell them how to divide that up? Is he an expert on building movie studios? That’s like telling you how big your bathroom ought to be.”
But Abbott said he just threw out a number as a launching pad for discussion, because some sort of limit needs to be included in the bylaw’s language. He said he is also proposing tightening the language pertaining to the water treatment and storm water retention facilities as a safeguard, so the project can’t exceed its intended scope. Main objects to the added language because he said it implies that the studio will have to provide water service to abutting property owners. That’s not the intent of the change, Abbott said.
“Unless you put a limitation in it, they could serve the world,” he added. “It’s not a requirement. All I’m suggesting is that it shouldn’t be wide open – that the water service their property and the school and not all the southern end of the town.”
But Main says Abbott has recommended so many harsh restrictions, his aim is to kill the project because he simply doesn’t want it.
“That’s totally false,” Abbott said. “I’m in favor of this project. I consider changes to make it look better and be better, like protecting the buffers. We have a couple of weeks to get everything right here, and then we have to live with it for the next 50 years. It’s similar to language we used with Makepeace’s River Run development.”
Abbott, who is representing abutters and other residents living in the Waverly Golf Club area on Long Pond Road, where the movie studio development is proposed, is doing the work for free.
But Main says that in his representation of these residents Abbottis deliberately making the zoning bylaw so restrictive Plymouth Rock Studios will take the project to a neighboring town.
“He cannot be trusted,” Main said. “He is not doing the citizens of this town nor the abutters justice because what we will end up with is a 40B there, with 300 or 400 units. How do the people on Long Pond Road like that?”
Main referenced 40B affordable housing developments, which are protected by the state and don’t have to adhere to local zoning restrictions.
“Personal attacks by small groups of dedicated supporters on anyone who asks questions or proposes changes to the zoning bylaw to make it better does not serve the studio,” Abbott said. “It casts a bad aura on the studio to have these kinds of personal attacks.”
That was the feeling behind his referencing 19th century writer John Stuart Mill’s essay, On Liberty, recently which talks about “the tyranny of the majority,” he said.
Main says Abbott’s use of this quote illustrates his lack of respect for democracy and the fact that, in America, the majority rules. Abbott doesn’t seem to care that 88 percent of voters who turned out in the last election logged their support for the project, Main said.
Abbott countered that the point of the quote is that the majority cannot eclipse the rights of the individual.
“This is why you have rights, so a majority of people who don’t live near a project can’t cram it down anyone’s throat,” Abbott added. “That’s not fair, and our system doesn’t work that way.”
But, for Main, Abbott has gone too far in his demands for more and more restrictions on a project he says will only help the town’s economy, increase the tax base and provide jobs. If Abbott and others continue to make this process a grueling one, Main says, Plymouth Rock Studios will go elsewhere and Plymouth will be out of luck..
“I have never seen an as-of-right permit as tough as this,” he said of the MEPOD sans Abbott’s revisions. “If these people can meet all of these conditions, we will have the best project Massachusetts will ever build.”
Abbott said he, too, thinks the studio development could be wonderful for the town.
“I hope to see it go through because I think it will be a great project if we have the right types of controls on it,” he added. “It’s better than a bunch of houses there. We’re not obstructionists; we’re just trying to make it better.”
Town Meeting will vote on the proposed zoning change Oct. 27.

Ancho and Coffee Short Ribs

4 lb short ribs
3 dried ancho chile chiles
1 dried chipotle chile
1 onion
2 garlic cloves
2 tablespoons molasses (or maple syrup)
1/2 cup coffee
salt
smoked paprika

Preheat the oven to 300F.

Bring a pot of water to medium boil and boil your ancho and chipotle peppers for 20 minutes, then drain. Taste the liquid - if it is not too bitter, save.

In a blender, combine the ancho and chipotle chiles, the garlic, onion, molasses, and 1 tsp of salt and puree. Gourmet also recommends adding a tbsp of lime juice (I didn't have any limes when making this, but the concept sounds good).

In a heavy bottomed pan or dutch oven, heat up some olive oil on medium high heat and brown the short ribs in batches, then set aside.

Pour the puree into the dutch oven and cook on the stovetop for several minutes. Add 1 1/2 cups of either the chile boiling water or regular water, and the 1/2 cup of coffee. Then add in the short ribs and spoon the sauce over the ribs so coated. Cover the dutch oven and put in the oven for 3 hours, occasionally checking to turn the ribs and spoon more sauce over them.

In our case, we made the short ribs in advance one evening and placed in the fridge for a couple of days, rather than wait hungry for them to finish. We then placed the ribs and braising sauce in a saute pan and warmed back up on very low heat until bubbling, tasting for salt and adding a sprinkling of smoked paprika.

Before you serve, spoon out any excess grease/oil, then remove the bones, tendon and any excess fat. Serve on a bed of quinoa pilaf, with a hefty red wine (a cab sav, zin, shiraz, malbec, or solid chateauneuf de pape would all work nicely). While I didn't use a garnish, I imagine that some chopped parsley or finely chopped jalapenos might be a nice addition.

Gourmet recommends serving this dish on a bed of polenta, but I decided to use my Rancho Gordo quinoa. Having never made quinoa, I checked my Bittman How to Cook Everything and discovered a nice little "quinoa pilaf" recipe. It is very simple and delicious and I will definitely be making quinoa more in future:

1 cup quinoa (repeatedly washed)
1 3/4 cup water (or stock)
1/2 onion, finely chopped
salt and pepper
olive oil

In a saute pan, heat up some olive oil and saute the onions for several minutes on medium heat, then add the quinoa and cook for another 5 minutes, stirring frequently. Add in the water (or stock), a few grindings of salt and pepper, reduce heat to low, cover and cook for 15 mintues. Taste for salt.

I received the case on Thursday for a trip to Portugal I was taking the following Tuesday. When I got the case, I realized that my Motif XS 6 slid around a little even with the straps and wasn't adequately padded. So I went out and bought some additional foam padding and went on my trip. I had to pay extra ($150) because my synth was overweight and oversize. I can only imagine how much it'd weight and cost if I bought Gator's Tour 61 case.
When I arrived in Portugal, the case's left wheel was broken and the other one was chipped. Keep in mind that this was the first time I used the case for flight transport. One the way back, my strap was ripped from the interior board, too. Luckily, no damage was done to my synth. If I hadn't padded the case, my synth would've been damaged for sure.
I immediately called Gator and SameDayMusic for an exchange, preferably a refund. Gator agreed to replace the defective case for free and did so promptly-great customer service. However. Same Day Music was reluctant to do anything at all and gave me the run around and then many contradictory answers; they told me I had to go through another type of customer service dept. since this was an Amazon order.
Be careful who you buy this product from. If you buy directly from a online merchant rather than going to Amazon, you have a better chance of exchange or refund if there's something wrong with the product. Going through Amazon just adds an extra middleman.
