Back then we were updated twice a week.The site was then called Online Palm User Club and retained this name until 2001 when I changed the name to Palm Addict. Having just gone to ELUNA a little over a month ago, I wasn’t expecting a lot of new news from Ex Libris management. For the most part this turned out to be true. However, there was one bit of important news for Metalib customers. Metalib 4.3 will be the last version of Metalib as we know it. Metalib 5 (or whatever it will be called) will be a complete re-write. The underlying database and administration portions of the code may be based on Primo but that is still unclear. The user front-end (i.e. discovery layer) will use Primo. Apparently customers of Metalib will not be charged extra for the Primo front-end to Metalib. That is, of course, if they only use the Primo front-end for Metalib. I think using the Primo front end for Metalib like this makes sense for Ex Libris on a couple of accounts. First, they won’t have to develop a new Metalib front end. That means less development is needed and less products to support. Secondly, it will give customers a little taste of Primo. If customers that get this taste decide they like the Primo front end, they may purchase Primo for use with other products. In other words, Ex Libris saves costs and might get a few more sales of Primo out of it.
Most of the user sessions were pretty good. I’m not sure if I got anything specific to bring back home and implement however. One session I enjoyed focused on Metalib. It was interesting to learn about how others are working with Metalib and doing things like creating RSS feeds out of it. However, the approach they used appeared to require a fair bit of work to implement, and with Metalib going away as we know it, I am not sure it would be worth it for us to try to do this now.
I think my presentation on RSS A to V went well. I definitely find it harder to read European audiences than I do American ones. I am not sure if that is because I am from the USA or not, but I think it might not be based on a conversation with a Swede who has presented in the USA a number of times. He said (and I agree) that Americans are more likely to provide visual clues that they are “getting” a presentation by doing things like nodding their head. Overall, Europeans seem to be more reserved in that aspect and seem to more intently focus/concentrate on what you are saying without showing much emotion during a presentation. I am not sure why this is, maybe it is a cultural thing or maybe it is because for most of them, while excellent English speakers, English is not their first language so it takes more focus/concentration for them. For those of you in the Mid-Atlantic states, you can see an encore of my RSS presentation at the Ex Libris Mid-Atlantic Users Group (EMA) meeting in early October.
One topic I found very interesting was the presentation and ensuing discussion abut the future of e-book management. Representatives from ELUNA, IGeLU, and, I believe, Ex Libris created a report about what customers need to manage e-books. As my friend Zoe says the “first you have to acknowledge that an e-book is not always a book in form and then things just go downhill from there. :-)
One of the things they mentioned was the enormous challenges of managing e-books. Some of the challenges include: variety of formats, different purpose and use (textbook, research book), diversity of hardware/software, digital rights management (DRM), pricing models, licensing models (do you lease or have ownership), digital curation, metadata creation, and discovery and accessibility. With all of the different formats, e-versions, and sources of e-books, putting like items together is a problem. One of the recommendations is that libraries need a solution that provides sophisticated de-duplication in a FR
-ized manner. Libraries and library software vendors have there work cut out for them.
Three other things stood out to me about their recommendations. First, the task force felt that the ability to meta-search full content of e-books is not an immediate priority. Secondly they believe browsing is not required for e-book discovery. Thirdly, they recommend that the e-book management system needs to allow libraries to include not just licensed content, but freely available content as well if they wanted to.
Considering the challenges of getting the full-text content into a meta search tool (esp. with all of the possible sources of electronic texts) it would be a daunting task to have full text search in an e-books discovery application. With that in mind, I can understand this one – although I think it will be needed at some point (which the recommendation also implied). We have it for journal articles and patrons will come to expect it in e-books. Also, I just think that it would be really useful if you are looking for information about a specific aspect of a topic.
My initial reaction about the no need for browsing recommendation is that I do not agree. Yes, if students are looking for a specific book (esp. a text book), they don’t need to browse. However, when not having known items, I think a browse is very effective discovery method. The task force pointed out that some ILS don’t currently have a browse function. While this is true, that doesn’t mean it is good. Also, while you might not be able to browse the catalog, you can typically (at least in the USA) browse the shelves. The physical shelf browse-ability is obviously not available for e-books.

They consider themselves designers when they are replicated one layout over and over again which just a change of colors. Make sure your site will not look like everyone elses. If their portfolio looks redundant move on. It means they are a lazy designer which means their coding could be lazy so if you switch designers later you might wind up costing yourself more money to fix the original designers designing problems.
So at this point you should have an idea of your products, your name, who you will use for PR and a possible web designer.This is good. Now this is where I like to figure out my budget. Now I know how much everything else will cost I now can figure out what my grand opening budget is. If these other routes put a big damper on your budget you may want to think of dropshipping as a filler til your budget increases. Make sure you include any shipping, surcharge etc. in the items price so you dont lose money. You want to stay in the black as much as you can.

So heres what you need to know about Anna K.  Shes 21, so she can now legally gamble which shes said over and over is one of her favorite pastimes (and it makes me feel slightly less lecherous about putting her on the list).  Shes really broken out this year on the WPBA Tour and has established herself as a Top 10 player and one of the most feared names on the bracket.  She has the capacity to beat anyone on the tour on any given day and recently made it to the Semifinals of the now defunct Generation Pool 9 Ball Championships.
Anna was born in Armenia, but grew up and currently lives in New Mexico.  Her WPBA profile says shes sponsored by New Mexico Golf, but Im guessing thats old info, as Ive never seen her wear a patch.  By the way, if shes not sponsored, there are some companies that are seriously missing the boat.  Shes going to be a TV regular so I wouldnt be surprised if a company steps up before the start of the 2009 season and coughs up some dough to be in the Anna K. business.

He said along with his family, pool has always been the love of his life. Though, he said, learning how to play from a wheelchair was frustrating at times.

It was difficult for a couple years, but as I get used to playing in a chair I actually feel bad for the people who have to be standing all of the time, he said with a laugh. They get tired, he cracked.

Brunelle said there arent many advantages for pool players in wheelchairs.

I thought of tweaking my top Greatest Billiard players into a mold of pound per pound greats. Though there are no inkling similarities between the two sports but nonetheless they both given fans exciting and mouth watering matches.
7. Mikka immonem- A former world champion in Billiards has a distinct approached in his shots. He is aggressive but at times tricky he is a good counter puncher but sometimes his aggressiveness could result to loosing more rounds.
6. Earl “The Pearl” Strickland- The typical trash talking player who could ruin anybody’s day Earl has a behavior of a 12 year old kid. Who lets his emotions get to him his accomplishments over the past 25 years in Billiards make him a future hall of famer… He has the skills of a Floyd Mayweather with a mouth like a Bernard Hopkins.
5. Johnny “The Scorpion” Archer- A two time nine-ball champion has won 60 professional tournaments throughout his career. Archer has a cool demeanor and has a killer instinct in close matches. He is the typical boxer in billiards though his recent outing wasn’t a good one.
4. Francisco “Django” Bustamante – He is similar to Boom boom Mancini or an Edwin Valero in the present. Django can hit the billiard balls with power. He is one of the greatest Filipino player to play the game. Valero had a 100 percent KO rate and has tied the record of 18 KO’s in the first round while Django holds the world record for the most powerful break shot at 43 miles per hour. Bustamante’s strength is his power he has won numerous tournaments in his career but his 2002 ordeal in the World Pool championships was a devastating one. His daughter died and had to carry his emotions going to the finals against 2-time winner of the tournament Earl Strickland. Though Bustamante failed to win against Earl but his stroke of luck began carrying him to the series of tournaments that followed.
3. Alex Pagulayan- Born and raised in the Philippines until Alex turned 13 where his family immigrated to Canada, Alex grew up in a pool hall managed by his father and started his love for the sport. A very skilled player who could even pocket five balls in one break he won the recent World Pool Masters in Las Vegas although Alex is a likeable pool player but he is mistakenly labeled as a sour loser. His skill is tremendous and with years ahead Alex future is still shining bright. He is more like Juan Diaz who could throw five or 6 combinations and at only 28 Alex Pagulayan still has more matches ahead.
2. Ralph Souquet – One of the greatest European pool master in the world Ralph have fought Many battles in his colorful career with his latest 2008 world 8 ball championship.
Ralph is the Joe Calzaghe in billiards a future hall of famer with a charismatic attitude.
1. Efren “Bata” Reyes – The so called magician. He made the most impossible shots and has given him recognition as one of the greatest player in billiards. His faced off with Earl Strickland could be one of the greatest matchup in billiards their 3 day race to 120 challenge match in 9-ball was the largest single-winning purse in a pool event which Reyes won 120-117. Reyes won most of the money-rich tourneys worldwide and his success made him the Philippines Sports Ambassador in 2005 South East Asian games.
He had commercials and movies but Efren’s undoubting charisma made him more loveable and could easily be compared to Oscar De La Hoya with Manny Pacquiao like humble attitude. Efren is still actively playing but his age is slowly catching up on him. He doesn’t need to worry about legacy since it’s already been etched down.

Now if you know anything about me you know I own a tortoise whose name is Harry. Now when I saw these gift tags it combined two of my favorite things: the color chocolate and TORTOISES!!! I got all excited. I had to have them so I bought two sets of those.
The two sets of each did get a little higher because one is $9. per set and the other is $12. So when youre buying doubles of every set because you are just greedy..like me. It does start to add up. However they are worth every penny. Not only do they live up to the quality their images display on the site. But their customer service is phenomenal, their shipping is quick even for custom projects and they are very easy for me to recommend to ANYONE.
I am now loving their corporate section, check out their holiday cards. They are perfect for someone like me who does not want to put a picture of something on my cards. So You can buy lets say the tin mints and send them along with your cards. I think that is just awesome. I really dont want to go over board this year as Im trying as always to save my pennies.

Dont even say it.  What do you want from me?  Shes super cute and Im weak.  I know that Ive griefed  her on this blog over her wardrobe in the past, but that doesnt change the fact that little Anna K. has turned into a total fox.  Besides, I cant help the fact that I have a serious weakness for the petite ladies.
